In late 2020, Congress passed a law authorizing the creation of a copyright small claims tribunal (the Copyright Claims Board, or CCB) within the Copyright Office. Participation is voluntary, and there are limitations on the amount of damages that can be recovered, and the types of claims the CCB can hear.  We’ll get an overview of the CCB from one of the first Copyright Claims Officers and explore why
Congress authorized the CCB’s creation. What has been the Copyright Office’s experience with the CCB? To what extent has the system been working as planned? What, if any, surprises have there been in applicants or claims? How might the CCB be improved?

Speaker: David Carson, Copyright Claims Officer, Copyright Claims Board, and former General Counsel of the U.S. Copyright Office
